Our last blog post examining the barriers to Black homeownership in Portland, including redlining, urban renewal displacement, and gentrification, which have all led to stark racial disparities in housing. We hope to continue to advocate for community-driven initiatives and policy changes to support Black homeownership and revitalize historically Black and Brown neighborhoods. Supporting Black-owned businesses in the Portland metro area fosters economic empowerment, strengthens communities, and promotes diversity in the local economy. These businesses create jobs, reinvest in neighborhoods, and offer unique products and services that enrich the city. Historically, Black entrepreneurs have faced systemic barriers to funding and growth, making community support essential for leveling the playing field. By choosing to support Black-owned businesses, we are actively contributing to a more inclusive, innovative, and economically vibrant city. Akadi: Specializing in West African cuisine from Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast, Akadi offers a menu rich in seafood and vegetarian options.
